Jacob Phillips is Professor of Systematic Theology at St Mary's University, Twickenham. His most recent books include John Henry Newman and the English Sensibility: Distant Scene, and Obedience is Freedom. He contributes regularly to The Critic magazine, while his academic work focuses on the interface between Catholic theology and contemporary culture.
